Accessories for Wine Decanters

By John Knight

Since the early days of world civilization, the wine decanters have been in used. These simple decanters of the olden times are favorite accessories of wine enthusiasts. These vessels are very useful to decant the contents from a bottle into them. Usually someone can tell the value of the wine through its decanter. The less expensive liquids are placed in ordinary vessels to decant; the costly ones are contained in crystal glass decanters where the purity of the wine is highly visible.

The term decanter is taken from the word decant which literally means to pour gently. Bottles that have been in the cellars or in your bar for some time can be observed to have sediments settling at the bottom. These particles are actually from the juices of fruits which remained after the extraction process.

The sediments which are found at the bottom of the bottle taste bitter taste with harshness on ones throat when accidentally swallowed. It is for this reason that there decanting is a need. There are certain accessories of a decanter that are used for decantation, to wit:

* Funnel is very helpful when your decanter has a narrow opening to avoid spillage. Most decanters are designed with a lid and their necks are usually narrow with a small head too.

* A Brush is for reaching the base to remove unwanted elements. Most decanter have narrow opening so it is quite difficult to wash using your hand in order to touch the bottom.

* The Dryer is an important tool to keep you vessel dry. A damp decanter can be a good hiding place of microbes that can spoil the taste of the wine. The vessel must be kept dry and suitable for the nest serving.

Some decanters have with tight-fitting lids while others are just open. More often, these containers are left uncovered for a while to allow them to breathe while the fluids are in the wine decanters.
